How Fuliza Repayment Works

Fuliza repays itself automatically. Here's exactly how the deduction order works, and why this one factor matters most for your limit.

01How Fuliza Repayment Works

Fuliza repays itself automatically — you never need to manually settle a Fuliza balance in most cases. The moment money lands in your M-Pesa account, whether from a deposit, a transfer, or a payment received, Safaricom deducts your outstanding Fuliza balance first.

💡This automatic deduction is why Fuliza feels different from a normal loan — there's no repayment date to remember, but it also means you can't control exactly when the deduction happens.

02What Gets Deducted First

OrderWhat happens
1Money lands in your M-Pesa account (deposit, transfer received, etc.)
2Any outstanding Fuliza principal + accrued fees are deducted automatically
3Remaining balance, if any, is available for you to use

If the incoming amount is smaller than your outstanding Fuliza balance, the entire amount goes toward repayment and your balance reduces partially.

03If You Don't Have Enough to Repay

An unpaid Fuliza balance doesn't disappear or get written off — it simply continues accruing the daily maintenance fee until it's cleared, whenever that happens. There's no fixed due date, but the longer it stays unpaid, the more it costs in total fees.

⚠️A Fuliza balance left unpaid for an extended period can also affect your CRB status and future limit reviews. See our charges calculator to estimate the ongoing cost.

04Why Repayment Behaviour Matters Most

Across every public statement Safaricom has made on the topic, timely repayment is consistently named as the single biggest factor in growing your Fuliza limit — more than transaction volume alone. Because repayment happens automatically, the most effective thing you can do is simply avoid letting a balance sit unpaid for long stretches by managing your M-Pesa inflows.
